3…2…1…
A new year starts tomorrow and a new website starts today. Welcome to FerretWilliams.com
New features of the site include:
- More ferrets
- Cleaner design
- More environmentally-friendly than Kenny Chronicles(I switched to an environmentally-friendly web host earlier this year)
- A new comic series called Ferret Williams
- Ferrets Vs Lemmings comics drawn only AFTER the entire script is finished
- Occasional extra special updates(animations, downloadable comic books, games, etc.)
- Same RSS feed and subscription options(testing out Deviant Art as another subscription option)
- A more well-rested cartoonist(hopefully)
- AND MORE! (you always have to include that in any list)
One of the cool new features is if you don’t have a custom avatar created, it will choose one for you. And these aren’t those butt-ugly Identicons, Wavatars or MonsterID’s included with WordPress, these are hand-picked FERRETS. Creative Commons licensed photos straight from Flickr. Go ahead and leave a comment to see what ferret it uses for you! Of course, if you have a Gravatar already set, it will use your self-assigned avatar. You can see the full gallery of ferret icons here, and if you prefer a different one you can go to gravatar.com and upload the avatar of your choice. The gallery may expand at a later date, so don’t be surprised if your avatar changes at that time. However, 45 should be plenty for a long time.
In the next few days, I’ll be tweaking the theme a little(like the Twitter widget), but another upcoming feature is buying the comics on shirts, mugs and posters. That will take some time to get working.
In other news, Comicraft has their annual never-to-be-repeated New Year’s Day Font Sale tomorrow(and part of today). I mention this because it’s a very popular sale with cartoonists and a great deal. If you do a comic, you need a quality font(NOT Comic Sans), and Comicraft has a plethora of unique fonts to choose from. Their fonts are typically really expensive(mine is normally $89), but for tomorrow only, all fonts are US$20.13. Alternatively, there’s Blambot, which has a nice selection of free and always-$20 fonts. The big advantage of Comicraft is that your lettering won’t look like the lettering on every other webcomic out there, since those free fonts are used a LOT.
Well, I’ve delayed the uploading of this comic long enough by typing this blog post, so… have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!… and don’t scare the skunks.
I suggest you do a post explaning your experiences doing the comic, I mean wich programs use to draw the comic, wich host use, wich wordpress theme, how many time and money invest, etc. Maybe you inspire others, or scare them, lol
I definitely plan on doing a review of the WordPress theme and plugin I switched to very soon. I started to include that in today’s post, but it was going to take too long. With the extra time and space I’ll have with that blog post, I might include some of that info as well. And the web host, I’ll be including an affiliate link in the sidebar pretty soon, too. I’m really liking the new software and web host and can’t wait to mention them.
When I get around to making the About page, I’ll definitely be including what software I use, which btw is Blender and Photoshop Elements.
Hey raccoons are just really big ferrets right? Kinda sorta…
As I was testing the avatars-for-everybody feature, I was noticing that your avatar fits in quite nicely.
